The Bronze Woman: Statue of the Unknown Negress

Cécile Nobrega, a Negress poetess best known for her piece The Bronze Woman, died 19 November 2013 at the age of 94. Her poem celebrates the struggles of Caribbean women, and led to the commission of a statue named in honor of the poem. Here is a picture of the poetess and her statue.

The statue was erected in 2008 at Stockwell Memorial Gardens in London. Because, what better place to celebrate the heritage of Caribbean mongrel women than in a WWI memorial park? In tribute to the life of Cécile Nobrega, CDN's own Shaniqauh McCullough reads The Bronze Woman in the following YouTube video.
